Best time to visit
The weather is famously perfect year-round, so any time works. San Diego Pride (July) is the signature weekend — one of the largest Pride celebrations on the West Coast, with a parade and festival radiating out of Hillcrest and Balboa Park. Summer brings the beach-and-patio peak; the shoulder seasons stay warm and quieter. Any weekend delivers: Friday on the Hillcrest strip, Saturday beach-then-dance-floor, Sunday brunch and a Diversionary matinee.
Getting around
Hillcrest itself is fully walkable, and North Park and University Heights are a short rideshare away. San Diego is otherwise car- and rideshare-dependent — the beaches, Balboa Park, and East County (La Mesa) are all a quick drive apart. The trolley and buses cover the core but sprawl means wheels help.
