The walkable heart of gay Houston since the '70s, where nearly all the bars, clubs, and drag stages are packed into a few blocks. Gentrified now, but still the center of gravity and the easiest place to bar-hop on foot.
Downtown

The Heights / Greater Heights
Independent shops, patios, and a younger, mixed crowd — a softer daytime-into-evening alternative to the strip.

Best time to visit
June for Houston Pride (one of the largest in the South), or Houston Black Pride for the Black LGBTQ+ celebration at its fullest. Any weekend works: Friday on the Montrose strip, Saturday at South Beach or a drag show, Sunday drag brunch at JR's.
Getting around
Car-dependent; rideshare is the norm for a night out. METRORail connects Downtown, Midtown, the Museum District, and the Third Ward.
