Yes — Houston is one of the most diverse cities in America, it elected the first openly gay mayor of a major U.S. city, and Montrose has been its queer heart for decades. The city is welcoming; the caution is Texas state law, which has moved against trans healthcare and drag. Houston is also very car-dependent, so plan rides rather than walking between neighborhoods.
Montrose is the historic gayborhood and the most visible, comfortable late-night footprint, along with parts of EaDo and the Heights. Because venues are spread out, rideshare between them instead of walking long stretches after dark.
